Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai wins Nobel for Literature

The prestigious Nobel Prize in Literature for 2025 has been awarded to the celebrated Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai. The announcement was made on Thursday by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, recognizing Krasznahorkai "for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art."

The Nobel Committee highlighted the compelling nature of his writing, which often confronts readers with the unsettling realities of the modern world. His narratives are frequently set against backdrops of social anarchy and profound human struggle, yet consistently underline the importance and resilience of artistic creation and beauty, even when faced with overwhelming bleakness.

Another significant work mentioned is Seiobo járt odalent (Seiobo There Below), a collection of 17 stories arranged according to the complex Fibonacci sequence. The Nobel Prize comes with a substantial cash award of 11 million Swedish kronor, which is approximately equivalent to ₹1.03 crore. The prize will be formally presented to the Hungarian author on December 10.
